Painter, printmaker, teacher and set designer, was trained at Chelsea School of Art and at the Slade, where he returned to teach from the 1970s. His work has been exhibited extensively in Britain and abroad. He was elected to the Royal Academy of Arts in 1996, becoming its first Professor of Drawing in 2000. In 1999, he was commissioned by the Trustees to paint George Steiner (NPG 6524). Le Brun was elected President of the Royal Academy of Arts in December 2011.
