Andrew Festing

Andrew Festing was educated at Ampleforth College and then Sandhurst. He was a Captain in the Rifle Brigade until he retired in 1968. He took up the position of Head of the English Picture Department at Sotheby's until 1981. He then painted full time and was elected a member of the Royal Society of Portrait Painters in 1992, with whom he exhibits annually and of which he was President from 2002 to 2008. Festing has undertaken many prestigious commissions including Queen Elizabeth II, Lord Carrington, HRH The Duke of Kent, and, for the National Portrait Gallery, Lord Wolfson (2000).
