Oscar Gustav Rejlander

Born in Sweden in 1813, Rejlander began his artistic career as a painter in Rome in the 1830s. Following his marriage to an Englishwoman, Rejlander moved to the West Midlands where he turned to photography in 1853. He collaborated with two of the best-known English photographers of his day, Lewis Carroll and Julia Margaret Cameron. He died in London in 1875. The National Portrait Gallery holds more than 10 of his photographs.
