Herman Moll, geographer, was one of the leading cartographers and map publishers of the early 18th century. He moved in scienctific and literary circles which included William Dampier the navigator and Jonathan Swift. As 'my worthy friend Mr Herman Moll', he featured in A Voyage to the Houyyhnhnms, Gulliver's fourth voyage.
