Born in Glasgow, Mary Ure is known principally as a stage actress who made her London debut as Amanda in Time Remembered (1954). First married to playwright John Osborne then actor Robert Shaw. Starred as Alison Porter in Osborne's Look Back in Anger on stage (1956) and on film (1958). Other films included her Oscar-nominated role in Sons and Lovers (1960) and as Mrs Custer with Robert Shaw in Custer of the West (1964) and as the principal female lead with Clint Eastwood and Richard Burton in Where Eagles Dare (1968).
