Ian Lancaster Fleming

Ian Fleming joined Reuters in 1931, then went into the City (1933-9). He was personal assistant to the Director of Naval Intelligence during the war. Fleming was foreign manager for the Kemsley group of newspapers (1949-59). The secret agent James Bond, '007', made his first appearance in Casino Royale (1953). Other novels followed, among them Goldfinger (1959) and Thunderball (1961).
