Clarice Mayne

Mayne was a well-known music hall singer and principal boy. She first appeared in variety at the Oxford Music Hall, London, in 1908, and, with her husband James W. Tate, established a popular double-act as 'Clarice Mayne and That'. Together they introduced many songs, mostly written by Tate, including I Was A Good Little Girl Till I Met You and their most successful hit, Joshua. Famed for her legs and deportment, Mayne was considered one of the finest principal boys in pantomime, and appeared in theatres around the country during the war years.
