My Grandmother Martha Fellechner worked for Honor Earl for many years as her housekeeper and cook. As children and teenagers we would help our grandmother with the duties in service, polishing brass etc. As we grew Honor would draw our portraits. There was three of us and she drew us together as a three, one of each of us on our own, one of each of us when we married and one of our mother and of course one of our grandmother. She was delightful and treated us all with dignity and respect despite our cultural and economic differences. X

I met Honor when I was working as a Staff Nurse at The Middlesex Hospital when Sebastian was a patient : we became friends and she invited me to rent her basement flat in Thurloe Square - at a very favourable rate ! We often met for tea at home and after she had to give me notice - to allow her Grandson to take the flat - she kindly asked me to sit for her and she drew my Portrait in Patel that I still have : we shared a lot of wonderful conversations and debated - often - the afterlife - that she believed in quite firmly and especially after Sebastian died: she invited my parents and I to her beautiful home in Martyr Worthy where she and the memorable Mrs Morley gave us a beautiful tea. She was an unforgettable and special lady - remembered with loving memories and my special portrait is still treasured.

She worked near Alresford in a house by a river and I have several portraits by her of me as a boy and a young man. She was a member of the Royal Academy.

In the 1960s/1970s my aunt, Phyllis Morley, was housekeeper for Mrs Earl at her country cottage at Martyr Worthy, near Winchester. As a favour to my aunt, one year probably around 1970, Mrs Earl drew pastel portraits of me & my younger brother, which we still have.
