Sitter in 5 portraits
Born in Darlington. Visited Arsenal F.C. in 1905, beginning a career-long association with 'The Gunners'. Became club historian, matchday programme editor and football's first voice on the radio. London correspondent for the New York Herald for 35 years. Sudden death of Arsenal manager Herbert Chapman in mid-1934/35 season saw Allison replace Joe Shaw as Arsenal 'secretary-manager' in June 1934. Steered Arsenal to record-equalling third successive league title in 1934/35. With media and public relations experience, Allison became the prototype for the modern day football manager. Arsenal won league title in 1937/38 and 1936 FA Cup. Appeared in the film 'The Arsenal Stadium Mystery' (1939). Retired in 1947.
