Irene Kohler was my mother, Estella Kohler's cousin. Whilst living in London Estella gave her piano lessons as a means of paying for her own singing lessons. (Estella, also a pianist, sang and accompanied herself at Wigmore Hall on a number of occasions. Irene married, had no children and went on to success both in the UK and Europe whereas my mother had a large family and her career, thereafter, came to a halt).
