James Bretherton
(circa 1730-1806), Engraver and printsellerArtist associated with 44 portraits
A London etcher and publisher of his own work, James Bretherton was known for his etchings after old masters and contemporary artists. He was very skilled in both stipple engraving and aquatinting and produced a number of memorable works of art based upon the satirical designs of H.W. Bunbury. His son, Charles Bretherton, was also an accomplished etcher.
