Joseph Grozer
(circa 1755-1798), Mezzotint engraverArtist associated with 29 portraits
Joseph Grozer was an engraver in mezzotint, and executed many plates after Sir Joshua Reynolds, George Romney, and others. Among his earliest known engravings were The Young Shepherdess (1784) and The Theory of Design (1785), both after Reynolds. Grozer published some of his own prints from his residence near Leicester Square. His later mezzotint engravings include the Viscount and Viscountess of Duncannon, after Reynolds, and the Duke and Duchess of York, after Henry Singleton. Grozer also worked occasionally in stipple, among these engravings being The Age of Innocence after Reynolds, and Sergeant Daniel McLeod, after W. R. Bigg.
