Australian actor, producer and manager, Asche made his London debut in 1893, after which he joined Frank Benson's company where he met his wife, Lily Brayton. Moving into theatre management in 1904, he continued to act and scored notable successes as the title role in Othello (1907) and the character Hajj in Kismet (1911). His greatest achievement was Chu Chin Chow which he wrote, produced, directed and appeared in alongside Brayton. During its record-breaking run of 2,238 performances he also produced its greatest rival The Maid of the Mountains at Daly's Theatre in 1917.
