A Welsh lawyer and politician. elected Speaker of the House of Commons, Master of the Rolls 1685-1689 and 1693-1717, Lord Commissioner of the Great Seal and a Privy Councillor.

1695 found guilty of taking a huge bribe to get a bill through parliament and was expelled from the House of Commons.
