John David Beckett Taylor, Baron Taylor of Warwick

Born to Jamaican immigrants in Birmingham, Taylor is the son of Derief Taylor, a professional cricketer and coach for Warwickshire and Enid, a nurse. Taylor became one of the youngest people in the upper house at the age of 43 and was only the third person of Afro-Caribbean descent to enter the House of Lords. Prior to that he practiced as a barrister and a deputy district judge. He is involved with many charities devoting his time and efforts to help raise money and resources for them. Taylor resigned from the House of Lords in July 2010 in the aftermath of the Parliamentary expenses scandal. Although several hundred members of the House of Commons and House of Lords were involved in the expenses scandal only six members of the House of Commons and two, including Taylor, of the Lords were ever charged and convicted of false accounting.
