Sebastian Charles Faulks

Novelist. Worked as journalist for 10 years before becoming Literary Editor of The Independent in 1986. His first novel A Trick of the Light (1984) was followed by The Girl at the Lion d'Or (1989), a love story set in 1930s France. Best known for the critically acclaimed Birdsong (1993) and Charlotte Gray (1996). The latter novel, about a female British agent on an undercover mission in occupied France during the Second World War has been adapted for the cinema (2001). Faulks' most recent novel A Week in December was published in 2009.
