Swimmer. Born in Brighton, Gleitze set many records for endurance in swimming, as well as being the first British woman to swim the English Channel in 1927, and the first to swim the Straits of Gibraltar in 1928. After her retirement in 1932, she devoted her fortune to temporary accommodation for people in distressed areas.
