The American actress and singer graduated from the New York School of Performing Arts, making her New York debut as a dancer in Blue Holiday in 1945. Cast by Orson Welles in Dr Faustus (1951), appeared on Broadway in New Faces of 1952 and later in the film version of the show. As a singer most associated with her signature song I'm Just an Old-Fashioned Girl and had hit records in Britain with Under the Bridges of Paris (1955) and Cha Cha Heels with Bronski Beat (1989).
