Baroness Emma Magdalena Rosalia Maria Josefa Barbara Orczy (1865-1947), Novelist

Hungarian-born novelist and dramatist. Studied art in London and exhibited work in the Royal Academy. After writing short stories in the late 1890s had her first major success with the play, and later novel, The Scarlet Pimpernel (1905), co-written with her husband, Montague Barstow. A series of 'Pimpernel' fictions followed including The Elusive Pimpernel (1908) and The Way of the Scarlet Pimpernel (1932). Also celebrated for her detective story, The Old Man in the Corner (1909).
