Anees Fatimah (née Karim), Lady Imam

(1901-1979), Politician and philanthropist; third wife of Sir Saiyid Ali Imam

Sitter in 8 portraits
Anees Fatimah was a cousin of Sir Saiyid Ali Imam, whom she later married, becoming his third wife upon the death of his second wife, Mariam. The couple lived a fulfilled life, Sir Saiyid Ali Imam was devoted to her, building a huge residence in Ranchi, Bihar. The residence, styled as a Scottish castle and known locally as 'Anees Castle', was built with no expense spared. A mausoleum was also built as a final resting place for the couple. The castle was completed in 1932, the same year as her husband's death. Anees Fatimah concentrated on her political career. When she passed away in Patna, her funeral took place there, thus destroying her late husband's dream of them to be together in life and death.
