Born in 1970 in Manchester, Gough founded the record label 'Twisted Nerve' in 1997 with partner Andy Votel and in that year released his first single EP1. Quickly establishing a cult following, EP2 and EP3 were released in 1998. Several compilations and singles followed including a contribution to James Lavelle's U.N.K.L.E album, Psyence Fiction. In 2000 Gough's first album, The Hour of the Bewilderbeast won the Mercury Music Prize. Album releases include the About a Boy soundtrack (2002) and Have You Fed the Fish? (2002). Known as 'Badly Drawn Boy', a name inspired by the TV cartoon Sam and his Magic Ball.
