Stepney-born Jazz saxophonist and nightclub owner, Scott was playing the saxophone with bands when he was sixteen and gained further experience playing with a band upon the Queen Mary. Scott became a founder member of the cooperative jazz group Club Eleven (1949-50) and in 1957 formed quintet The Jazz Couriers. In 1959 he opened Ronnie Scott's' jazz club in Gerrard Street, London. Establishing an international reputation the club moved to larger premises in Frith Street in 1965.
