Glynis Johns (1923-), Actress

Daughter of the Welsh-born actor Mervyn John, Glynis made her stage debut at twelve and her first film appearance in South Riding (1938). Made memorable appearances in 49th Parallel (1941), An Ideal Husband (1947) Miranda (playing the mermaid title role) in 1948. From the mid 1950s Johns appeared in a number of Hollywood films and in 1963 starred in her own TV series Glynis. Nominated for an Oscar in 1960 as supporting actress in The Sundowners (1960) and in 1973 won a Tony for her performance in the Broadway production of A Little Night Music.
