Iris Tree

(1897-1968), Poet, actress and painter; daughter of Sir Herbert Beerbohm Tree

Iris Tree (Iris Winifred Reine Daphne Ledebur (née Beerbohm-Tree, later Moffat))

Sitter in 6 portraits
Iris Tree is a neglected avant-garde icon. The daughter of Sir Herbert Beerbohm Tree, she studied at the Slade School alongside the modernist writer Nancy Cunard and became associated with bohemian circles. She contributed poems to the Sitwell’s Wheels anthology (1916-21), and was a popular artist's muse, sitting for members of the Bloomsbury group, Augustus John and Jacob Epstein. She continued to perform, appearing in Federico Fellini's La Dolce Vita (1960) as herself.
