Mary Moser (1744-1819), Artist

Mary Moser (later Lloyd)

Sitter associated with 5 portraits
Mary Moser trained with her father George Michael Moser (1706-83), a Swiss medallist and engraver. His connections and involvement in London's early art institutions helped his talented daughter. At fourteen, Mary won her first Society of Arts medal for her flower drawing. She then regularly exhibited flower pieces at the Society of Artists. Ambitious for professional status, in 1768 she became a founding member of the Royal Academy. Moser exhibited regularly, and became the leading flower painter of her time. Her greatest triumph was the royal commission of 1792 to decorate a room at Frogmore House for which she was paid a large fee.
