Pearl Argyle (1910-1947), Dancer

Considered to be the most beautiful woman of her generation by Ashton, Argyle made her debut as a student with Marie Rambert's Ballet Club. In 1935 she joined the Vic-Wells Ballet as a leading dancer. She created the role of the Fairy in Ashton's first major production for the Company Le Baiser de la Fée (1935) and the Serving Maid in de Valois's The Gods go a'Begging (1936). In 1938 she moved to New York, where she died suddenly from a brain tumour at the age of thirty-seven.
