World-renowned bass-baritone Bryn Terfel was born near Caernarfon in rural North Wales, where he still lives. He was singing onstage from the age of four and went on to study at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama. Since his stage debut with the Welsh National Opera in 1990, he has won numerous awards including a Grammy Award for Best Classical Vocal performance (1996) and two Classical Brit Awards (2004) and nominated for the Best Singer category in 2006. His signature roles include the title role in Verdi's Falstaff and Figaro in Mozart's The Marriage of Figaro. He received the CBE in 2003.
