Sitter associated with 6 portraits
Tushingham made her professional stage debut at the Liverpool Playhouse in 1960. She appeared at the Royal Court in Arnold Wesker's The Kitchen (1961) and Ann Jellicoe's play, The Knack (1962). In 1965 she starred in the acclaimed film version of The Knack, directed by Richard Lester. With her untutored and truthful performing style she typified the British New Wave style of acting. Other notable film appearances of the 1960s include Tony Richardson's A Taste of Honey (1961), The Girl with Green Eyes (1964), Doctor Zhivago (1965) and Smashing Time (1967).
