We are writing from Melbourne Australia, and have two miniatures in our family with this artist's signature on the back of one. It has been a thrill to find this listing. The miniatures are of Thomas Henty and Francis Elizabeth Henty (nee Hopkins), dated Sept 12, 1823. Thomas was a banker and Merino sheep breeder in West Tarring, Sussex before he and his family ventured to Australia to re-settle. We are direct descendants of the "Henty" pioneering family who are Victoria-Australia's first permanent settlers and have many historic artefacts in our collection. Son James, was first to arrive in Australia in 1829 and eventually followed by Thomas and the rest of the family in 1832.

Joseph William Rubidgewas en route to the Cape in 1821 with his half brother Robert Henry Rubidge and family when the ship called at St Helena shortly after the death of Napoleon. He painted a sepia portrait of Napoleon as he lay on his deathbed and returned to England while his half brother continued on to the Cape. The subsequent print aas engraved and was widely advertised. The original ws held privately and sold again in the USA in the recent past.
