Bryan Forbes

(1926-2013), Film director, screenwriter, film producer, actor and novelist

After acting on the West End stage, Forbes made his film debut in 1948 and has played numerous supporting roles in films including; An Inspector Calls (1954) and The Colditz Story (1955). In 1959, he formed a production company, Beaver Films, with Richard Attenborough. As a screenwriter, he received acclaim for The League of Gentlemen (1959), in which he also acted, and The Angry Silence (1960). Forbes made his directorial debut in Whistle Down the Wind (1961). He also directed The Raging Moon (1971) and The Stepford Wives (1975). Forbes has also published two volumes of autobiography and several novels.
