Trevor Nelson

Hackney-born Trevor Nelson was a pioneer of the urban music scene in the 1990s, starting his broadcasting career at the pirate radio station Kiss in 1985, before it gained its license in 1990. He rose to Director and daytime DJ of the station, promoting the Lick party club nights, before moving to BBC Radio 1 in 1996 to present the first ever national R&B show. He won a MOBO award for Best DJ in 1997, and currently DJs for BBC Radio 1Xtra and BBC Radio 2. He has released several compilation albums and also has a successful television presenting career, appearing as a judge of Just the Two of Us (2006-7) and as a commentator for the BBC's coverage of the 2012 London Olympics opening and closing ceremonies. Nelson was awarded an MBE in 2002 for his services to community through his work with Millennium Volunteers, a youth volunteering initiative in the UK. He continues to DJ around the UK and Europe.
