Beginning her career in television, Knightley's breakthrough role was in Bend It Like Beckham (2002). She appeared in Richard Curtis' romantic comedy Love Actually (2003) but became known to audiences internationally in the same year as Elizabeth Swann in the Pirates of the Caribbean series of films. In 2005 Knightley was nominated for the Best Actress award at the Oscars for her performance in Pride and Prejudice. Notable subsequent performances in Atonement (2007), The Edge of Love (2008), The Duchess (2008) and Never Let Me Go (2010). Theatre work includes The Misanthrope (2009) and The Children's Hour (2011).
