Craig Johnston
(1960-), Footballer and football boot designerSitter in 1 portrait
Johnston had a successful career as a professional footballer, winning League Cup, FA Cup and European Cup medals. Casting aside the stereotype of footballers as 'doers' rather than 'thinkers', Johnston transformed the sport footwear market with his Predator football boot which was licensed to Adidas and has become a bestseller. Johnston was shortlisted for the Design Museum's Designer of the Year award for his later boot design, The Pig, a further advancement of the technology used in the Predator. He also invented and patented a hotel mini-bar shelving system called The Butler.
