Mark Wayner (Weiner)
(1888 or 1889-1980)Artist of 36 portraits
Polish-born Wayner moved to London with his parents at the age of three. Displaying an early flair for drawing, he was apprenticed to a German artist after which he studied at the Craft School affiliated to the Royal College of Arts and then the Slade School of Art. Apart from painting, Wayner established a considerable reputation as a caricaturist and published two books on the subject. He supplemented his artistic income by designing posters and Christmas cards for the firm of Raphael Tuck.
