Anne Neville, Queen of England

Anne Neville's life was dominated by the War of the Roses, her father Richard Neville, loyal to the House of York against the House of Lancaster predisposed Anne to be a pawn in the battle for the crown. An early betrothal to Richard of Gloucester was broken when she fled to France with her family after their rebellion against Edward IV. Married to Edward, Prince of Wales aged 14 to form an alliance between her father and the Lancastrians, Anne would lose both her husband and father in the ensuing battles. Anne's sister Isabel Neville and her husband the Duke of Clarence took custody of her and her mother Anne Beauchamp, probably in an attempt to take her inheritance. The Duke of Clarence's brother Richard III intervened and married Anne in 1483, she was crowned Queen of England, just 2 years before her death.
