Charles Orton, Brother of Arthur Orton, 'the Tichborne Claimant'
Sitter in 1 portrait
Throughout the Tichborne criminal trial it was suggested the Claimant was Arthur Orton, the son of a Wapping butcher, who had emigrated to Australia and assumed the alias of Tomas Castro. There were incriminating reports that he had visited Wapping seeking the Orton family upon his first arrival to London in 1866. The Claimant's brother Charles, and his sisters, all denied they were related to him. It was revealed they had received money from the Claimant and once these payments stopped, Charles altered his testimony.
