(1876-1943), PhotographerArtist associated with 9 portraits
The son of a Greenwich warehouseman, Joseph Whittome, and Eunice Smith, Knights-Whittome began his photographic career in Hereford in 1897, photographing some of the cast of a local production of The Sign of the Cross. In 1904 he moved to Sutton, Surrey, where he operated a studio at 18 The High Street; in 1911 he opened a second studio at 24 Station Road, Epsom. Although he ran a well-equipped studio, Knights-Whittome is best known for his photographs of Edward VII taken on location at West Dean Park and Rufford Abbey. A large collection of more than 10,000 negatives and portraits of the Portuguese royal family are held by the Central Library of the London Borough of Sutton.
