Born in Quebec, Sarony trained as a daguerreotypist in New York before travelling to England. He set up his lavishly decorated studio in Scarborough in 1857, where people from all around the country travelled to be photographed. As his business brought a large amount of money to the town, the square in which his studio stood was renamed 'Sarony Square'. Although less known than his brother, Napoleon Sarony, he was one of the most successful provincial photographers of his time.

Iam told by friends of mine who have just bought a flat in Scarborough that the site of Sarony's studio is now sadly a carpark! And they refer to him being the hero of a sea rescue. do you know about this?

Sarony is buried in Manor Road Cemetary. Dean Road, Scarborough. There is a great deal of information about him if you look up Scarborough Civic Society.
