Zadie Smith

(1975-), Writer

Sitter in 3 portraits
English novelist, essayist, and short story writer, she won the Whitbread First Novel Award with her book White Teeth (2000). Born in Willesden, the setting for the novel, she graduated with a first in English from Cambridge. Since its publication White Teeth has remained on the bestseller lists and has been adapted for a television series. Smith was elected a fellow of the Royal Society of Literature in 2002. Her second novel The Autograph Man was published in the autumn of 2002. Many of her subsequent books (including NW and On Beauty) and Swing Time) have received substantial critical acclaim making her a literary sensation. Her new collection of essays, Feel Free is due out in June 2018.
