Television and radio presenter. Born in Glasgow, Young began her journalistic career in 1989 with BBC Radio Scotland. By 1992 she was a newscaster for Scottish Television and hosted an eponymous chat show. Young became the head anchor of the news team for Channel 5 (1997-9 and 2002-7) and ITV (1999-2001). In 2006 she replaced Sue Lawley to become the fourth presenter of Radio 4's Desert Island Discs. Since 2007 she has presented BBC1's Crimewatch and has guest presented over twelve editions of Have I Got News For You.
