Jabez Cornelius Whitley

(1837-1904), Bishop of Chota Nagpur

Jabez Whitley was ordained as a priest in 1862, and subsequently joined the Society for the Propagation of the Gospel, who sent him to Delhi. As the first Bishop of Chota Nagpur, Whitley oversaw the establishment of the Church in an area that covered over 43,000 square miles, with the majority of Anglicans coming from aboriginal tribes.
