Dame Jilian Norma ('Jil') Matheson

Statistician Jil Matheson joined the Office for Population and Surveys in 1975. Subsequently, she has worked for the European and the World Health Organisation Union, going on to be appointed as Deputy Director in the Office for National Statistics (ONS) in 1998. In 2003 she moved to the Census Division of the ONS and worked on the design of the 2011 census, as the first woman to run the decennial population census. In 2008 Matheson became Director General for Statistics Delivery at the ONS.
