Sitter in 2 portraits
Artist of 1 portrait
Boshier was born in Devon and studied at Yeovil School of Art and Guildford College of Art. As a Royal College of Art student, he was associated with Pop, but differed in his use of satire. His work criticized Americanization and commercial culture. Boshier's early Pop phase ended with a trip to India in 1962, after which his work became more abstracted - expanding into sculpture, photography, film and collage. In the 1970s, he remained politically engaged and in 1979 returned to painting and Pop themes, designing graphics for David Bowie and The Clash. Boshier moved to Texas in 1980 to teach, inspiring his 'Cowboy' series. In the late 1990s he relocated to Los Angeles, revisiting ideas from his formative works.
