Singer-songwriter, signed to her record company at 16 having already composed 200 songs. She was the first female British singer to top the charts with a self-composed song Wuthering Heights (1978). Her four-octave voice and use of mime make her a compelling and unique star. Other major hits include Babooshka, Running Up That Hill and a duet with Peter Gabriel, Dont Give up (1986).
