Vaslav Nijinsky
(1889-1950), Ballet dancerSitter in 4 portraits
Russian-born dancer; celebrated for his spectacular leaps and sensitive interpretations, Nijinsky was a soloist at the Maryinsky Theatre before joining the Ballets Russes. He became a star performer of the company's Paris seasons, with triumphs such as Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov's Scheherazade, which premiered on the 4 June 1910, at the Opéra Garnier.
