George Belmore (George Belmore Garstin or George Benjamin Garstin)

George Belmore (né Garstin) first achieved prominence in the adaptation of Mary Braddon's sensation-novel, Aurora Floyd (1863), at the Princess's Theatre. The Times called his performance 'one of the striking events' of the theatrical season. Subsequent roles included those in Francis Burnand's The Deal Boatman (1863) and Wilkie Collins's No Thoroughfare (1867). He was also known for his comic acting and pantomime work. Belmore was in the company of the Princess's Theatre for some time and also worked under the management of Sir Henry Irving at the Lyceum Theatre. He died in New York.
