George Anson, 1st Baron Anson (1697-1762), Admiral

Admiral and naval reformer. He sailed around the world, 1740-4, attacking the Spanish in the Pacific, burning Payta in Peru, and capturing the Manila galleon with a treasure of half a million pounds. First Lord of the Admiralty 1751-6, 1757-62.
