Later Victorian Portraits Catalogue Entry
Sitter in 8 portraits
Illustrator; in a short life of intense and fevered activity, produced many brilliant, original and highly finished black-and-white drawings. His frequently morbid and erotic illustrations to the Yellow Book and the Savoy made him a cult figure of the decadent movement; illustrated Alexander Pope's Rape of the Lock and Oscar Wilde's Salome; an aesthete of elegance and charm, and a witty conversationalist.
