Polish-born painter; Stanislawa de Karlowska trained at the Académie Julian in Paris from 1896. A painter of townscapes, interiors and still-lifes, Stanislawa Bevan's work combined a modernist concentration on colour and form with elements of Polish folk art. During her first decade in England (from 1900) she exhibited with the Women's International Art Club, the New English Art Club and the Allied Artists' Association. Although now well represented in British public collections, she sold relatively few works in her lifetime and her achievements were often overshadowed by those of her husband, Robert Bevan.
