Sitter in 1 portrait
Anne Gerrard, Lady Tredway married the diplomat Dudley Carleton in 1607. Like her husband, Lady Carleton was an art connoisseur and she travelled to the Netherlands to buy paintings for Elizabeth, Queen of Bohemia and George Villiers, Duke of Buckingham . Her marriage was notably happy although she died with no surviving children. The royal physician Sir Theodore de Mayerne described her as the 'queen of wives'.
